The College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences offers students a traditional liberal education to meet the needs of the 21st century, allowing them to compete for a variety of careers in an increasingly complex and evolving world.

Master of Liberal Arts

AUM’s Master of Liberal Arts program is the only interdisciplinary master’s degree program in the state of Alabama, offering specialized classes in the various liberal arts disciplines, including English. Students take core classes in the program and then focus on their chosen disciplines, and they may complete the program by writing and defending a thesis in their discipline. 

Homeland Security and Emergency Management (M.S.)

This program prepares today's military personnel, law enforcement, IT specialists, emergency management professionals and similar individuals to anticipate and handle threats to public security and safety.

Public Administration (M.P.A.)

The M.P.A. program at AUM prepares students for management positions in the nonprofit sector and various administrative and management opportunities in local, state, or national government. We equip students to be effective and ethical administrators in today's complex and multicultural environment.


Political Science (M.P.S.)

The Auburn University at Montgomery master’s degree program in political science is designed for students who seek academic or professional careers. Students explore the leading literature in the key political science fields of American politics and international relations, receive advanced training in research methods, have the opportunity to take electives in comparative politics and data analysis, and undertake an independent research project on a topic of interest under the guidance of program faculty.

Criminal Justice (M.S.)

The Master of Science in Criminal Justice explores a detailed analysis of our criminal justice system and provides students skills that apply to law enforcement, security, corrections, and juvenile justice.

Applied Economics (M.S.)

The program is accepting applications for the Fall 2018 semester. The MS in Applied Economics has options in Health Care Economics, the Economics of Government and Law, and General Economics. It is a carefully designed program, which offers rigorous training in quantitative analysis, economic modeling, and econometrics.

Master of Teaching Writing

Our Master of Teaching Writing degree emphasizes a deep knowledge of teaching in writing studies and a solid foundation in writing theory for a strong start to a professional life at the college level or in a corporate environment. Students are prepared for both teaching and professional writing careers through the capstone projects: a thesis and portfolio.
